Ford's SecuriLock immobilizer has shipped on most models since roughly the late 1990s. Earlier keys carry a 40-bit chip; many models moved to an 80-bit chip around the early 2010s, and the two are not interchangeable. The chip has to be programmed to your vehicle — a cut-only copy turns the ignition but the engine won't run.
Blade, chip and lock/unlock buttons in one unit. Many Focus, Fiesta, Escape and Fusion trims of the 2010s use a flip key with a high-security side-milled blade — a standard duplicating machine can't cut it, so the blade is cut by code on dedicated equipment.
Proximity fobs on push-button F-150, Explorer, Escape, Mustang and others. On most models these are programmed through the OBD port right at the vehicle; the newest model years can require extra authorization steps — a detail that affects both the time and the price of the job.

No flat rate fits every Ford: a plain metal key for an older Ranger, an 80-bit transponder key for an F-150 and an Intelligent Access fob for a new Explorer are three different jobs in both parts and programming time. The exact model and year decide the job — a fair shop quotes a range for your Ford up front, and the final price is agreed before work starts.
Ford calls its immobilizer SecuriLock — the industry name is PATS, the Passive Anti-Theft System — and it has been standard on most Ford models since roughly the late 1990s. The chip in the key changed generations along the way: earlier keys use a 40-bit chip, while many models built from around the early 2010s onward use an 80-bit chip, and a key from the wrong generation simply won't be accepted even if the blade turns. Newer push-button Fords pair the immobilizer with Intelligent Access proximity fobs. The right chip generation and blade type can be identified from the VIN and model year, which is why a good locksmith asks for both before the job — so the part on the van matches the vehicle. One Ford quirk worth knowing: the door keypad found on many models unlocks the doors but does not bypass the immobilizer — driving still requires a programmed key or fob.
All keys lost on a Ford is usually a mobile job, not a dealer tow. On most models the key code is sourced from the VIN, a new blade is cut — including the side-milled high-security type — and the SecuriLock chip or Intelligent Access fob is programmed through the OBD port where the vehicle sits. Expect it to take longer than adding a spare: on many Ford model years the procedure includes a timed security wait before the module accepts a new key, and the newest push-button models can add authorization steps on top of that. F-150s and Super Dutys are work trucks, so an all-keys-lost can just as easily happen at a job site or a loading dock in Doral as in a Kendall driveway — the process is the same wherever the truck is parked. Proof of ownership is required, and any extra steps for your model year should be spelled out in the quote before work starts.
The keypad — Ford calls it SecuriCode — unlocks the doors, which is a real advantage in a lockout. But it doesn't start the engine: the immobilizer still requires a programmed key or fob. If every key is gone, the keypad gets you into the cab and no further.
